Los Angeles - Mariah Carey doesn’t celebrate her birthday.

The 41-year-old singer - who is expecting her first child with husband Nick Cannon - believes not celebrating the anniversary of her birth gives her more freedom.

She said: “I don’t have birthdays. Literally. If anyone wished me happy birthday, I’d be like, ‘Who are you talking to?’ It’s about not being tied down to anything.”

The Hero songstress insists she lives outside the usual restraints of society and has no interest in being on time for anything, because she doesn’t want to be restricted.

She explained to the Independent newspaper: “Honestly I don’t think I’m normal. I don’t think my life has been quite normal. I disregard time, you don’t see me wear(ing) a watch. I don’t adhere to modern rules or the normal rules of time.”

However, despite her quirks and diva reputation, Mariah thinks she is a dream employer because she cares about her staff.

“I can be difficult, but I’m pretty nice compared to most people I’ve seen (who) do what I do. If you want to work for someone difficult, work for a bank or company where people don’t care about you. I take care of a lot of people and it’s not easy.”
