Are you watching MasterChef SA?

I am. Then again, it's sort of part of my job to sit down every Tuesday night and critically assess the show.

My critical eye is somewhat disappointed.

Firstly, the food isn't all that special. Secondly, I have no attachment to any of the contestants. I only take the time to be irritated by some aspects of them, such as Jade's accent and Sarel's loud scarves.

Also - many of the contestants never get any screen time. Did you know Ilse made a butternut and sweet potato pie in last week's challenge? I didn't - because her plate never made it in front of the camera.

The only gripe I have with the judges is that their Master Classes feel more like kiddie cooking classes. I want to see how you make intricate, exotic dishes - not just pasta and tomato sauce.

I had high hopes for the show, but if I'm honest, I'm still waiting to be wowed.

How do you feel? Does MasterChef SA live up to international standards, or did you enjoy MasterChef Australia more? We want to hear your side of the story. Send us your thoughts now. Perhaps I'm just biased because I've spent too many years reviewing Idols.

But come hell or high rosewater, I'll continue to watch and keep you up to speed. Subscribe to our RSS feed to make sure you don't miss out on any news, boos or reviews.
