Giving Thanks

Americans will be celebrating Thanksgiving this week, and although I think another public holiday is the last thing SA needs, it's a tradition I think the world should observe.

It's been a big year in entertainment news, filled with a lot of scandal, break-ups and the heartache of losing stars like Whitney Houston. We spend so much time reporting on the things that went wrong, it's time to reflect on the things that went right.

This year, I'm thankful for some really great music. Ellie Goulding's Halcyon has been haunting me and while John Mayer's Born and Raised isn't his best album, it's a necessary one.

I'm also so thankful that Jennifer Aniston is engaged! Finally the Jen vs Angie stories have begun to die down and I'm happy she's found love again. But if I'm being honest here, y'all know Brangelina is my favourite celeb couple of all time!

Which celeb couples are your favourites? Vote in our Top of 2012 survey and you could win cash and tickets to see Lady Gaga in Cape Town! You can also vote for your favourite movies, TV shows, music videos and more.

What are you waiting for? Take it now!

Here's what the rest of the Channel24 team are thankful for this year:

I have to say I am most thankful for shows such as Revenge (scandal, nail-biting drama!) that still make it worthwhile to watch television, and then shows such as Glee that celebrate everybody being different and unique.

I'm thankful for Material – A heart-warming, comical and authentically South African film that didn't let the stereotypes surrounding Indians and Muslims in conservative communities get in the way of telling a great story. And it's made a bona fide star of medical doctor turned comedian Riaad Moosa.

I'm thankful for Sting visiting South Africa this year. And the reason for that is not only because he's my celeb crush, but the guy is truly an unbelievably talented musician. And at the age of 61, who knows when and if he'll be visiting again? It was an amazing gift and one of the greatest things I've seen in my life. Thank you Sting.

On that note, let's give it up for Big Concerts and all the other concert promoters who are bringing SO MANY international acts to SA this year.

What are you thankful for? Send your list to and you could be published.
