Welcome to SA Princess Charlene

Did you watch Charlene Wittstock's wedding over the weekend? Even if you didn't, I'm sure you still have an opinion about it.

Channel24 user Lenniebos was positive, saying: "She looks beautiful and you can see she is actually in love with him". On the other hand, Brad felt sorry for her, saying: "I am genuinely worried for Charlene. I believe that she realised all-too-late that being the Princess of Monaco would certainly not be a fairytale."

In case you haven't been following the drama, Charlene Wittstock from Benoni was married to Prince Albert of Monaco over the weekend. Just before the wedding kicked off, rumours started that Prince Albert had fathered another two illegitimate children while dating her. After the wedding, the rumours got worse. Charlene allegedly tried to run away three times to duck her duties, and the last time officials stopped her at the airport and confiscated her passport.

It's all very sinister. Who knows if it's true? It is possible that she is being held captive with a sweet deal of fame and money in return for producing a legitimate heir. Or maybe she is just a sucker for love, believing that this time he will change.

Either way, this week the royal drama will move closer to home when the new Princess of Monaco and her husband arrive on SA soil. The royal couple is scheduled to host a local wedding party for 450 'close" friends and VIPs in Umhlanga on Thursday. On Friday she will be in Cape Town to visit Desmond Tutu and make a brief visit to Somerset West to do charity work.

Whether the rumours are true or not, I think we South Africans should get behind her and show her we are proud. Let's give our Princess a royal welcome this week. Who knows... she might be the only one we'll ever have.

'Til next week,
