Why there’s so much hype around it: It’s sci-fi! Seriously though, it’s really well done, and the cliffhanger factor is on point. Plus, THE Stephen King is a fan… the end!
2. Marvel’s Runaways (Season 1)
What it’s about: Six teens discover that their parents are baddies (supervillains). They decide to come together to run away and stop their parents.
Why there’s so much hype around it: It’s Marvel! Who doesn’t like Marvel creations?! Okay, there is also that the kids love it and ABC studios is now airing it on Freeform but you can watch it on Showmax (first and only in South Africa).
3. Suits (Season 1 – 7)
What it’s about: A college dropout finds himself working at a law firm alongside New York’s top lawyer. The secret that he’s not really a lawyer unfolds spectacularly over many seasons.
Why there’s so much hype around it: Besides being an incredible legal drama with hot men in suits (hello Gabriel Macht!), it also used to star the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle. She actually bade farewell to the drama in a wedding to Mike Ross.
4. Freakish (Season 1)
What it’s about: After a chemical explosion, a group of kids battle it out with monsters who have come to take over their small town.
Why there’s so much hype around it: So many people are actually into zombie shows (freaks!). This one happens to also be really scary and well done. And stars actress, Youtube star and WCE, Liza Koshy.
5. Younger (Season 1 - 5)
What it’s about: The sad (yet comical) reality of a 40-year-old single mom, who, after finding out how hard it is to get back to the working world, tries to pass for a 26-year-old.
Why there’s so much hype around it: The charming lead actress Sutton Foster is doing the most with her role. Plus, it’s not only funny but clever.
6. Cloak & Dagger (Season 1)
What it’s about: It’s centered around two teenagers from very different backgrounds who discover they have superpowers that are mysteriously linked to one another.
Why there’s so much hype around it: Because Vulture said so! The publication called it "the superhero show of the summer”. The Marvel show is about more than just superpowers, it’s also socially conscious, covering real-life issues that face teens in New Orleans and pretty much all of the USA, including police brutality, racism and modern-day poverty.
7. Game of Thrones (Season 1 – 7)
What it’s about: Two powerful families battle it out for control of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros and the ultimate Iron Throne.
Why there’s so much hype around it: Dragons, insane special effects, epic set, costumes, characters and acting. What’s not to like?! The Odyssey says, “It isn't just a show, but rather a phenomenal experience”. Aptly put!
8. Ballers (Season 1 -3)
What it’s about: A retired football superstar tries to reinvent his career as a financial manager for current footballers.
Why there’s so much hype around it: Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock) makes 44 look so damn good! It’s such an accurate depiction of the crazy lives of athletes that real-life ballers are getting touched in their studios.
