London is a city where many people’s dreams have come true, it has housed talents from Adele to David Bowie to Sade, and our top 3 Idols contestants got a chance to walk amongst the greats when they visited London, sponsored by Capitec Bank.
Paxton Fielies, the 17-year-old hopeful from Bishop Lavis, Cape Town, described London as being one of the places on her bucket list, but Idols and Capitec gave her the chance to visit the popular city ten years before she thought she would have an opportunity.
The trip included visiting the wax museum Madame Tussaud’s, a ride on the London eye, and a tour around the city with the open top red bus. When we had a chance to catch up with Paxton, she said that her favourite wax figure at Madame Tussaud’s was Leonardo DiCaprio, as he is her celebrity crush. The group were also given a Capitec debit card to purchase memorable keepsakes that they could take home with them.
As to how the trip has influenced her musical journey,
Paxton said that it helped her to grow as an artist, increased her experience
and allowed her to do things that she could only dream of. She described her Idols journey as a whole as being a
blessing. The love that she has been receiving has overwhelmed her.
About the experience, the Belhar High student said, “The most
important lesson I've learned is to respect everyone on set, from the person who
cleans to the director. You never know, they might even be the ones getting you
gigs. Also, I've learnt that there will be people who like you, and people who
don't, but it's important to focus on the positive, always.”
