All the divas, all the drama

Joburg might not be as glam as New York City or LA, but that doesn’t mean the housewives can't compete with their designer-clothes-wearing, diamond-dripping, fat-bank-account US counterparts. Welcome to The Real Housewives of Johannesburg S2.

“I’ve always been drawn to finer in life. I live and breathe fashion every day,” says singer Christall Kay, who's got a walk-in closet the size of some houses – and that’s just for her 1000 pairs of shoes. “I used to dream of living like this as a kid with Bobby Ewing (Patrick Duffy’s character on Dallas). Except my life is better.”

Only two of the wives have returned for Season 2, but their replacements are more than up to the challenge. There’s more Gucci and Louis Vuitton on the show than in a celebrity Hollywood party and enough bling to make anyone jealous – but the real drama is in the snide remarks, arguing and backstabbing. Episode 1 has already had Twitter in raptures.

The new season is streaming on Showmax and DStv Now at the same time as it airs on 1Magic.

For the heart of a farmer

It’s a bumper crop for Afrikaans dating show Boer Soek ’n Vrou. It’s the South African spin-off of UK series Farmer Wants a Wife and literally, a farmer is searching for a wife. The single ladies who want to be Mrs Farmer then write him letters. Actual handwritten briewe.

Now flooded with mail, the farmer reads them over a nice strong mug of coffee or out in the middle of his fields while driving his tractor, whichever tickles his farming fancy. And then the dating fun begins.

The big news this season is the inclusion of the first gay farmer to look for love, Damian, a sheep and cattle farmer from Bapsfontein. This series is hosted by singer Leah, and it’s a sweet and light-hearted dating show.

Stream Boer Soek ‘n Vrou on DStv Now and Showmax express from the broadcast on kykNET.
