Reeva Steenkamp remembered

  • Reeva Steenkamp, the 29-year-old model who was reportedly shot and killed in boyfriend Oscar Pistorius' home, was laid to rest in her hometown of Port Elizabeth today. We take a look at how SABC1 remembered the late model before and after the episode of her reality show was aired.
  • Born in Cape Town, Reeva and her parents moved to Port Elizabeth at an early age. Her father is a well-known horse trainer. After high school, Reeva went on to complete her law degree. Her passion for modelling took off six years ago, when many modelling agencies approached her and she decided to move to Johannesburg. (AP)
  • Reeva was also a well-known face on television, standing in as presenter for Fashion TV in South Africa and recently appeared on the reality series Tropika Island of Treasure 5.   • After the episode aired on Saturday 16 February, fellow contestant and well-known model Phuti Komo, wrote a letter to City Press in which she recalled all of her favourite moments with Reeva during the shooting of Tropika Island of Treasure 5. In the letter Phuti reveals how Reeva aspired to become a model, after sustaining a serious back injury from a horse riding accident. (AP)
  • In a press statement released by Samantha Moon, the creator and executive producer of Tropika Island of Treasure, she said that "Reeva was a wonderful human being and an extremely talented and intelligent woman". Moon also said in an interview with eNCA, that the decision was made to air the show, as it was the perfect way to honour Reeva and remember her as being a smiling and bubbly person.   • The Daily Mail reported that Reeva's parents, Barry and June, gave SABC1 the go-ahead to air the reality series, agreeing to the fact that it would serve as a great tribute to their late daughter. (AP)
