Cape Town - We chat to local rapper, Youngsta, about performing at Superbalist is Rocking The Daisies 2016.

This is your third time performing at Rocking the Daisies. Will you be doing anything differently this year?

There has been a lot of growth the last couple of years, and the music I'll be playing will be different as well. The sound is going to be more Cape Town orientated. It's going to be very patriotic. I feel like it's going to be one of those sets where I might make the crowd sing the national anthem.

What music will you be listening to on your way to Rocking The Daisies?

I listen to a lot of old music. I don't really play the new stuff. I like it, but I'm not the 2016 expert. When a song is playing, I might have to ask the person next to me, "what song is this?" For the most part I'll be listening to some Mary J Blige, definitely some smooth grooves. Because the drive to Darling is quite nice. And you have the open country side. There is a lot of old music I'll be listening to. The Spinners, James Brown. - That funk music.

Do you have a specific motto for Rocking The Daisies?

Whenever I leave RTD I always say, "My daisy has been rocked." The audience is always alive and hungry, they just want to be entertained!

Who would you like to share the stage with at Rocking The Daisies?

So many artists. It would be nice if we could have like a medley. Back when hip-hop started one thing that used to be big in the early to mid 90s was cyphers. You know? The DJ will play one beat and like 17 rappers come on stage. They'll go back to back and just drop a verse. Almost like we're on a street corner.

Now just imagine all that rappers all the rappers from RDT come on stage, from Nasty C and Stilo to Mac Miller. Just imagine we all jump on stage and we just start rapping back to back. - We need to take hip-hop back!

Do you have any tips for surviving Rocking The Daisies?

I've had some time at RTD, hey! I've had some times there. Pace yourself. Don't go to quickly. You get excited by the lights and the crowd, the music and the location. You know that no one can find you. Just take it easy, you're going to be there the whole night. Relax.

Don't try and run before you can crawl.

What is the last song you had stuck in your head?

I'm listening to Schoolboy Q and the song is called Groovy Tony. That song has been stuck in the brain. The beat is very old school hip-hop. It's grimy and heavy street. It reminds me of some old dusty ass vinyl. I can hear him pull his face when his rapping. He has that lemon face!
