7de Laan’s Alyce and Mandla finally tied the knot last week after the stressful lobola negotiations - and it was worth the wait! tvplus was lucky enough to score a wedding invitation!

It’s definitely been a bumpy ride to the altar for Alyce and Mandla! First there was Alyce’s parents’ opposition to the wedding and the lobola problems, then Mandla had to find ways to scrape the money together – and they weren’t sure where they were going to have their wedding! So when the wedding did finally take place, 7de Laan went all out to give Alyce and Mandla a day to remember.

Vuyelwa Booi, who plays Alyce Morapedi, says filming such a big wedding was interesting. “It was tiring, because it was a long day, but it was very interesting for me to be the one in that situation, after having been to so many traditional weddings before. It was also interesting to see and hear what everyone who’d never been to a real traditional wedding had to say about it all,” she says.

Freedom Hadebe, who plays Mandla Khumalo, also enjoyed the experience. “It was a lot of fun, and an opportunity to showcase a part of my culture and tradition. Like any warrior, Mandla is captain of his family for the day. He sets out to conquer Alyce’s family, tow in his bride. He needs to be ready and fully armed.

Hence the war game the two families played. In the end, the Khumalos come out victorious, because Mandla wins the love of his life and someone to help grow the Khumalo family.”

In case you missed it on television, here's a gallery of Alyce and Mandla's big day.

7de Laan airs every week night at 18:30 on SABC 2.
