Top 5 TV Dads

2012-06-15 11:34
To celebrate Father's Day on Sunday 17 June, we've rounded up some of our favourite dads on TV.

Some are strict, others are just dopey, but they all make us smile.

Coach Taylor - Friday Night Lights

Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose. A simple philosophy that drives Coach Eric Taylor to be an inspirational mentor to the high school football team he coaches – and to be the most awe-inspiring father and husband at home. A man of his word and his convictions. And sexy to boot.

Phil Dunphy - Modern Family

He's overbearing, embarrassing, suffers from delusions of coolness and tries way, way too hard. And we love him for it. Phil, played by the hilarious Ty Burrell, is a lovelable exaggeration of a present, interested and caring dad, and we'd take this end of the spectrum over the other any day.

Dexter Morgan - Dexter

Ok, so his Dark Passenger should have put him in a maximum security prison a long time ago already, but Dexter's effectiveness as a bloodthirsty serial killer also makes him a committed single father to his precious little son Harrison. But is Harrison destined to follow in his daddy's footsteps? We can't bear the thought...

Homer Simpson - The Simpsons

What does one say about Homer Simpson? Apart from being a raging Duff beer-aholic and strangling his son Bart in every episode, his hands-on and often endearing fathering skills are on display if you look for them.

Dr Cliff Huxtable - The Cosby Show

The funny dad, the really funny one. You're not laughing at him because he's embarrassing or behind the times, you're laughing because he's a hoot! Effortlessly cool and calm, this dad made fatherhood look like a walk in the park.
