What to expect on Idols SA this season

Johannesburg - Year after year the talent we see on Idols keeps getting better and better, and this year is no different. At the pre-recording of Idols SA Top 16, held on 27 March in Johannesburg, competition was tough amongst contestants. Many made great song choices and hoped that that might save them from elimination but that’s a call the judges will have to make.

Similar to Idols season 14, this season is full of young contestants in their early 20’s who are full of energy and personality. The show goes through audition stages which take place in all provinces. From there they have solo performances followed by group stages. Next the final 30 odd contestants fight for the Top 16 spots.

One element the viewers look forward to during the audition stages is seeing guest judges, who are well known South African musicians. The judges join the full-time judges namely singer Unathi Msengana, media personality Somizi Mhlongo and former Managing Director at Universal Music South Africa Randal Abrahams, for a day.

Back by popular demand is Gospel legend Doctor Rebecca Malope who was a guest judge in Pretoria. Fans like Rebecca’s honesty towards singers especially those she feels are not particularly talented. The Love is Blind hit maker, Lady Zamar, joined the judging panel in Johannesburg. Though she’s shy, she had a great time giving constructive feedback to potential South African musicians. In Cape Town Metro FM breakfast show host, DJ Fresh, joined the team and the award-winning Vusi Nova showed up at the Durban auditions. Look out for Idols SA season 15 on Mzansi Magic on 7 July.
