On Monday the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) announced that the 14th annual South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas) have been cancelled.

In a statement to Channel24, the foundation said: "In light of the announcement made by President Ramaphosa and the Government's strict actions in response to the COVID19 ("Coronavirus") outbreak, the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) would like to inform you that the 14th Annual South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs14) will no longer take place at the Sandton Convention Centre on 27 – 28 March 2020.

"Further details will be communicated in due course."

HOW THE VIRUS SPREADS

According to the Centres for Disease Control (CDC) the virus is thought to spread mainly between people who are in close contact with one another through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.

People are thought to be most contagious when they are the sickest, but some spread might be possible before people show symptoms.
