5 things Fox Africa revealed at their annual upfront

Johannesburg – The Fox Networks Group Africa held their annual upfront at the swanky 54 on Bath Hotel in Rosebank on Tuesday.

Here are five key takeaways from the presentation:

1. FIRST ON FOX

Fox kicked off the year with a new content agreement with 20th Century Fox Television Distribution which gave the channel access to series first such as The Resident, The Gifted, Ghosted, American Dad and Family Guy.

All the premiere series such as The Resident, The GiftedAtlanta, Legion, Empire, Star, The Walking Dead will return for their next season in late 2018/early 2019.

2. SERIES COMMISSIONED BY FOX

The network announced a co-production with Canal+ and Fox Networks Group (FNG) Europe and Africa to produce War of the Worlds. Based on the story by H.G. Wells, War of the Worlds is a multifaceted series writer and created by Howard Overman. 

Pre-production of the drama has begun with filming set to begin in late 2018.

3. DEEP STATE HEADING TO SA

Fox's first original scripted commission was a great success. Parts of the second season of the gritty espionage thriller will be filmed right here in South Africa!

The first series starred Mark Strong (Kingsman: The Secret Service) as Max Easton, a retired Secret Service operative is who coaxed back into the field to try to shut down an Iranian missile program.

4. NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC EXPLORES THE RISE OF THE INTERNET

The channel's newest scripted show Valley of the Boom is a six-part limited series that will focus on the 1990s tech boom. The scripted drama will also feature select documentary features to tell the true inside story of the dramatic early days of Silicon Valley.

The series stars Bradley Whitford (Get Out), Steve Zahn (War of the Planet of the Apes) Lamorne Morris (New Girl), John Karna (Lady Bird), Dakota Shapiro (The Affair) and Oliver Cooper (Project X).

5. AN INSIDE LOOK AT AESTHETIC MEDICINE

Fox Life's new locally produced TV show takes viewers behinds the scenes of aesthetic medicine. It follows Dr Cathy Davies a medical doctor with a special interest in aesthetics who runs a practise in Johannesburg.

In Outpatients she helps victims of violent injuries, to burn victims or those seeking life changing hair restoration.
