7 binge-worthy series to keep you entertained for the three months of January


Cape Town - Showmax, DStv Now and Netflix bring us these binge-worthy new shows to kick off 2019. Brand-new series, fresh seasons of fan-favourite shows, and box sets of long-running TV classics, they’ll make the first weekend of the year go by in a flash.

1. The Bold Type S2 (Showmax)

Things are going well: Jane's first major article is published, Sutton can see if anything happens with Richard and Kat is changing attitudes around her. But this new season isn't going to stay so polite… Season 1 is also on Showmax.

2. HBO’s Room 104 S2 (Showmax)

When you enter Room 104, you don't know what will happen next or if you'll ever return... This new season brings a fresh anthology of terrifying, funny, strange and macabre tales, each episode a unique experience. Season 1 is also on Showmax.

3. Snatch S1-2 (Showmax)

Young hustlers discover a cache of stolen gold. In this series loosely based on the cult-classic movie, they can be rich, but need to stay one step ahead if they don't want to end up on the wrong side of London's underworld. Starring Rupert Grint, and inspired by a real-life heist.

4. Gordon, Gino and Fred: The Ultimate Road Trip (DStv Now)

It's being called "Top Gear with food". Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay and company embark on a hilarious European adventure. Join UK chef Gordon Ramsay, Italian chef Gino D'Acampo and French restaurant manager Fred Sirieix as they gallivant through Italy, France and Scotland.

5. Derry Girls (Netflix)

The hilarious exploits of a gang of 16-year-olds (four girls and their male tagalong) as they navigate Catholic school, English oppression and life in a small town in Northern Ireland in the late 1990s. This is as Irish as it gets.

6. Sons of Anarchy S1-7 (Netflix)

In Central California’s most notorious biker brotherhood, the rules are simple: You live and die for The Club. After seizing control of its town, gun-running motorcycle club The Sons of Anarchy soon butts heads with rival bikers, racist groups and the law.

7. How I Met Your Mother S1-9 (Netflix)

Ted’s epic search for his soulmate is told mostly through a series of flashbacks, as he recounts, decades from now, the story of how he met the mother of his kids. Starring Josh Radnor, Jason Segel and Neil Patrick-Harris, this long-running classic series is comedy gold.
