1. Survivor SA S6 (Showmax)
You haven’t watched Survivor until you’ve binge-watched Survivor. This is the most recent season from SA, set in the Philippines. You’re going to want to try to get through all the episodes in one sitting because, trust us, you won’t believe who ends up in the Top 3 - never mind who ends up winning.
2. Survivor S32 (Showmax)
This American instalment follows the Brains vs Brawn vs Beauty format, but don’t let that put you off. This season saw the highest number of medical evacuations, the harshest environment and hands-down the most epic levels of drama. With Survivor having been on the air for 18 years in the States, all the contestants know exactly how to play the game - and no matter where you fall on the Brains/Beauty/Brawn scale, you’ll be rooting for the geeks.
3. Boer Soek ‘n Vrou S11 (DStv Now and Showmax)
You know the drill: a farmer needs a wife, he meets a group of hopefuls, and winnows them down until he ends up with his ideal woman. Lucky him. This season is hosted by singer and actress Leah. You can livestream the latest episodes of the popular reality show on DStv Now, and if you miss any of them, they’ll be available every Friday on Showmax.
4. Idols SA S14 (DStv Now)
They’re down to the top three - Thato, Yanga and Thando - after a record high of more than 16 million votes came in last week. Stream the penultimate episode of SA’s favourite reality series this Sunday to find out who will face off in the finale.
5. Bachelor in Paradise, S5 (DStv Now)
Our favourite members of Bachelor Nation begin their journey for another chance at finding love at a luxurious Mexico resort. It’s hot, it’s steamy, it’s trashy, and it’s the ultimate guilty pleasure. The series has just started on 1Magic, so you won’t have missed much if you hop in now (and you can see the first two episodes on Catch Up).
6. Project Runway S7-8 (Netflix)
Even if you have zero interest in fashion, modelling or Heidi Klum, this group of aspiring fashion designers will have you hooked in no time, as they compete for the chance to be wear the crown. Who will make the cut? This is easy, compulsive, absorbing binge-watch material.
7. Nailed It! (Netflix)
Tired of bake offs and cook offs and everything in between in the world of kitchen competitions? Nailed It! is for you. Three completely hopeless amateurs compete for the $10 000 cash prize by trying to recreate a professional masterpiece. The Guardian called it “one of the most refreshingly shambolic cooking shows ever thrust upon the world”. Who can resist that?
