Each year brings new shows, series and movies to our screens, and with this a new crop of talented local performers to watch.
The first half of 2020 has been quite interesting, with multiple new knockout shows like Netflix's Queen Sono and Blood & Water and Mzansi Magic’s Gomora. Here are seven rising stars to keep an eye on.
1. SIPHESIHLE NDABA
She’s is one of the new kids on the block thanks to her character, Mazet, in Mzansi Magic’s new hit telenovela, Gomora. She landed the role after having just finished an honours degree in dramatic arts at Rhodes University and is an alumni of The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls.
This is Siphesihle’s acting debut.

2. NTOBEKO SISHI
He’s known for his role as Ntokozo in Gomora. He got his first acting gig as a schoolboy in SABC2’s Signal Hill in 2018.
The actor is also an economist and a musician, boasting two degrees from the University of Cape Town.

3. SICELO BUTHELEZI
Sicelo Buthelezi is slowly becoming one of Mzansi’s TV favourites through his funny-yet-amazing portrayal of Teddy in Mzansi Magic’s Gomora, alongside Ntobeko, Siphesihle And Ama Qamata.
Teddy is a young boy with special needs. This is Sicelo’s first big role on TV.
4. TSHEPO SENATLE
Tshepo plays the comedic, mischievous Koloi in SABC1’s Skeem Saam.
The 23-year old was a panel beater when he got the call that landed him a role in one of the biggest shows on local TV, and has since stolen the hearts of many viewers.

5. AMA QAMATA
Ama plays Puleng Khumalo in Blood & Water on Netflix. She has also had roles in Gomora and Rhythm City.
Puleng is a teenager who moves to Parkhurst College after a chance encounter at a party leads her to believe that a star student is her sister who was abducted at birth.
6. KHOSI NGEMA
Khosi plays Fikile Bhele alongside Ama in the new Netflix series Blood & Water. She makes her acting debut as a star swimmer and popular student at Parkhurst College.

7. ROSEMARY ZIMU
The former Isidingo actress is the newest addition to The Queen cast.
Rosemary is getting ready to make her debut in the telenovela as Warona – the new It girl in town turning heads, but she faces the toughest competition from her mother, Mildred Sefatsa (played by Kuli Roberts).
