AfricaMagic Awards aired over 5 channels

Cape Town - With the first ever AfricaMagic Viewers' Choice Awards taking place on Saturday 9 March, DStv has announced that its viewers from across Africa will be able to tune in and watch continuous coverage of the awards show live from Lagos, Nigeria.

The awards ceremony is held in association with MultiChoice and sets out to recognise the best that the African film and television industry has to offer.

After a recent fire damaged the studios in Lagos where M-Net broadcasts SuperSport and records soapies, the pay-tv operator has promised that the awards ceremony will go on as scheduled.

Schedule interruptions

Viewers will be able to tune in from 19:00 CAT to watch an exclusive one-hour red carpet pre-show which will be aired on AfricaMagic Entertainment (channel 151), AfricaMagic Movies (channel 152), AfricaMagic Movies 1 (channel 153), AfricaMagic (channel 154) and AfricaMagic World (155).

The pre-show will be hosted by television personality Denrele Edun and hosts from various AfricaMagic shows including Helen Paul and Uti Nwachukwu (Jara), Dolapo Oni and Eku Edewor (53 Extra), Lawrence Maleka (StarGist) plus Nic Wang’ondu and Sarah Hassan (Mashariki Mix).

The official awards ceremony will start at 20:00 and will run till 21:30, meaning that scheduled programming will fall away.

Big Brother Africa presenter IK Osakioduwa and Star Gist presenter Vimbai Mutinhiri have been announced at the hosts for the awards ceremony.

Musical acts


An impressive line-up of musical acts for the awards show has also been announced.

The famed Nigerian Afro-beat singer Femi Kuti and his band, RnB singer Tiwa Savage and the Kenyan Afro-pop group Sauti will take to the stage during the ceremony to entertain guests and viewers at home.

Viewers still have a chance to vote for their favourites in more than 24 categories.
