Can you survive Survivor SA?

Johannesburg – The popular reality show is back for a fifth season, and has added a few twists. Although the location is not yet known, M-Net has revealed that the two Survivor tribes will be lead by two sports stars in an effort to spice up the well-worn formula.

Rugby veteran Corné Krige and SA football legend Mark Fish are named as Tribe Captains for the new season, a new twist not only for South Africa but also for the original American Survivor series. Although they won’t be eligible for the R1 million prize, they will attempt to coach their teams into winning the challenges. Nico Panagio will back as the presenter.

Previous seasons were set in Panama, Malaysia, Santa Caroline and lastly the Maldives, which indicates that the next location will probably be another island beach setting. In the previous seasons only one man has ever won, Klein Karoo actor Hykie Berg, who is also known for his roles in Egoli and Binneland.

Audition details

Looking to air in 2014, auditions for the next round of contestants will be starting on 1 August in Johannesburg, with following auditions in Cape Town on 8 August and Durban on 15 August. Registration opens at 9:00 but M-Net’s website advises that you get there at 8:00 as auditions will be done on a first-come-first-serve basis.

On the website, the producers of “Survivor South Africa: Champions will be looking for individuals who are fit, have personality, and ultimately the X factor that will set them apart and make them a suitable Survivor contestant.“

Remember to bring some snacks for the queue, your ID or passport, a registration form and your own brand of personality. The form also stipulates that you should be able to swim well and motivate why you want to be a Survivor Castaway.  Check out M-Net’s website for more details.
