Cape Town – MultiChoice is adding the Comedy Central channel to DStv's line-up from December 6 at 19:30.

The Comedy Central channel will be a uniquely packaged, or so-called bespoke channel for Africa but will contain TV hits such as South Park, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report.

The channel's line-up will comprise stand-up and sketch comedy, satire, offbeat comedy TV series, classic sitcoms and specials.

Comedy Central which, will be available to DStv premium subscribers only on channel 122, will kick off with a one-hour special starring American comedian Jeff Dunham, followed by The Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen special and two new episodes of South Park.

Big entertainment

"We are delighted to bring humour, smiles and laughter to viewers by adding Comedy Central to our existing portfolio," said Alex Okosi, the senior vice president and managing director of MTV Networks Africa.

MTV Networks Africa also runs the MTV, MTV Base and VH1 channels.

Helen Smit, M-Net's former head of local productions, was also just appointed as programming director for music for MTV Networks Africa.

"DStv is all about big entertainment and Comedy Central is a good fit for our platform," says Aletta Alberts, MultiChoice's general manager for content.

"Our DStv premium subscribers across South Africa and the rest of Africa will undoubtedly enjoy the unique combination of world-class comedy, mixed with local flavour."

    Awesome! :)

      Bob - 2011-12-01 16:29

NOT awesome, American comedy is about as funny as ricketts,

      John - 2011-12-02 07:54

Says you bob...says you. But I beg to differ. Jeff Dunham is f***ing hilarious! ;)

      Ian - 2011-12-02 09:28

go way bob lol, i want my south park

      IJust - 2011-12-02 10:36

  • geoffrey.stokker - 2011-12-01 14:14

Brilliant! The only channel I really watched when was in the States.

  • Brian - 2011-12-01 14:20

Up go the fees in January

  • jabuojc - 2011-12-01 14:33

Not bad at all, with all these high prices we need a good laugh once in a while. :)

  • VaalDonkie - 2011-12-01 14:35

How's about unbundling the channel offerings...?

      Winsome - 2011-12-02 08:44

Don't be silly vaaldonkie - that would lose them money!

      Fidel - 2011-12-02 09:52

Economies of scale. Multi-Choice infrastructure costs the same for both compact and premium subscribers.

      Christopher Hart - 2011-12-02 12:53

If they were to do that then about half of all the channels english channels (and probably all the foreign language channels) will dissappear overnight. At least with the way they are now we do have choice over what channel to watch. Cannot wait for comedy central to come here, I just hope that the South Park episodes they are going to screen are the latest ones when Season 16 starts next year.

  • poaul - 2011-12-01 14:54

Great! Now when the hell are we getting a Sci-Fi channel?????????????????????????

      Clive.D.Buckley - 2011-12-01 15:31

There used to be a Sci-Fi Channel on DSTv about 8 years ago... it was canned

      Robert - 2011-12-01 15:45

I agree, bring the sci-fi channel back...

      John - 2011-12-02 07:55

Yeah. It was canned. But the sci-fi shows that they repeatedly showed...well.. sucked. We need the real stuff!

  • duettists - 2011-12-01 16:31

I'm inclined to agree with Bob. I don't like American comedy. Vintage BBC comedy would be more to my taste!

      Silvana - 2011-12-02 06:58

Now you're talking my language Duettists. I wish they would show the earlier series of Last of the Summer Wine which we haven't seen here. I miss Nora Batty.

      Ian - 2011-12-02 09:29

      oh poo

      Jacqui - 2011-12-02 10:51

Yes, and how about Alf Garnett?

      John - 2011-12-02 11:20

Well, you already have BBC E where you can watch this stuff ;)

  • celicia.serenata - 2011-12-01 19:00

This is the best news EVER from DSTV. No more hassle with poor internet connection trying to watch The Daily Show online.

  • eon.engelbrecht - 2011-12-01 23:20

VERY IMPRESSED with DStv! Yet another channel and a good one too- South Park will be on it too :-) I will reconsider cancelling my subscription now.

  • brionyl.french - 2011-12-02 06:19
