Cape Town – MultiChoice is adding a new movie channel, True Movies 1, to DStv in South Africa from Wednesday, 19 June to its DStv Premium bouquet on channel 138.

True Movies 1, a movie channel which has been available on MultiChoice's DStv platform and other platforms elsewhere in Africa is now being added to DStv in South Africa from Wednesday as a standard definition (SD) channel.

The film channel from Moving Movies Ltd which was launched in April 2005 in the United Kingdom will show "moving and emotional true movies" featuring Hollywood names such as Meryl Streep, Angelina Jolie and Helena Bonham Carter in lead roles.

True Movies 1 is a freely available TV channel in the United Kingdom and shows dramatic films, many of which are made-for-TV movies.

A sister channel, True Movies 2 was launched in 2006 which focuses on movies based on real-life dramas.

"We wanted to give our DStv Premium customers a movie channel like no other – True Movies 1 is a perfect compliment to the almost 15 movie channels available to our DStv Premium customers on DStv," says Collins Khumalo, CEO of MultiChoice South Africa, announcing the DStv channel addition.

MultiChoice says True Movies 1 will feature weekly movie premieres, revealing royal documentaries, Hollywood films and author-based dramas.

MultiChoice also announced that the new Fox Crime channel will make its debut on 9 July on DStv channel 126.

for R720.00 a month I cannot but feel I am cheating myself paying so much just for so little choice. I have been evaluating this for some time now and I feel I must cut ties with Multichoice.

      Ogi Jakov - 2013-06-18 16:48

You South Africans are lucky paying R720,00. We in Mozambique are paying R830,00 and not to mention waiting in cues up to 2 hrs to pay your subscription. But relating your post my sentiments exactly.

      Jack Russel - 2013-06-18 16:57

i haven't had DSTV since they disconnected me for not - at my expense- swapping my smartcard. A faithful subscriber for 10 years and they disconnect me. Best thing they could have done. My kids have changed dramatically. Never looked back or even considered rejoining- especially at those rates

      Bullet Proof - 2013-06-18 17:48

Another repeat channel. Watch the increase in subs... that's what its all about.. add another channel and increase the sub

      Sipho Mathabula - 2013-06-18 19:21

They can add 9 new channels problem is they keep recycling the same SH@T, I cancelled my subscription to DSTV in March happy to read more books listen to radio and surf the net. Multichoice treat us viewers like the ANC treats it's slaves (us) with utter disdain. They think we are all stupid. I urge everybody to boycott DSTV. Until they give us proper content instead of endless reruns.

      Sipho Mathabula - 2013-06-18 19:35

Here is a thought take the (let's say for arguments sake) R650 per month invest it say FNB new share thing, In 5 years you would've saved close to R60 000 if you calculate compound interest and increases in subs, now take that over 10 years and you have R150 000 invested sounds a lot better than the sh@t they feed us.

      King OfThiefs - 2013-06-18 21:05

The time is now really close to say goodby to DSTV. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWcZKrP2sDU

  • Fredster69 - 2013-06-18 15:47

Oh good, another movie channel to watch repeats

      Babesia Bovis - 2013-06-18 16:16

DSTv do not even have enough content to show on the existing channels. I agree, these repeats and behind the scenes nonsense are taking over. Why another channel??? Fill the available ones and reduce the channels and the price!

  • Sheilan Clarke - 2013-06-18 15:55

Once again, when will DSTV take Kerrang! from TopTv? Or any other real music channel. *sigh* PS: The movie channels are mostly the same.

  • Denzil Small - 2013-06-18 16:15

What I really hate about DSTV is that when you have a problem with the decoder, you need to call them and be on the line for up to an hour at a time, why can't this be made free to subscribers? We are already paying alot per month!

      Tshepo Prince - 2013-06-18 18:17

      that is true

  • Shaun Crosby - 2013-06-18 16:24

Left DSTV months ago. Best move ever. Buy all the DVD's and Blu-Rays now. No adverts, watch what I want when I want it. Sure, I spend more on blu-ray's and DVD's than I did paying DSTV, but when I want to watch something I just pop in a disk and press play.

  • Stewart Sonie Temboer - 2013-06-18 16:29

This is just another load of nonsense thats not wanted by dat country's ppl and MULTICHOICE is is continually feeding us crap in a non-competitive market. They are manipulating the SA tv market and boasting millions of rands with stupid repeats...mxm!!!!!!!!!! I h8 this.

  • Gert Vermaak - 2013-06-18 16:34

"True Movies 1 is a freely available TV channel in the United Kingdom" - but the greedy bastards are only making it available for premium subscribers. Lol. FU dstv.

      Suzanne Viljoen - 2013-06-18 17:03

Yes Gert F DSTv. We have no choices. Greedy Asholes!!!

      Sipho Mathabula - 2013-06-18 19:27

Suzanne as their name implies you have muli choices listen to radio read a book spend time with the kids surf the web. Fckem.

  • Desmond Altona - 2013-06-18 16:34

What does this man mean "almost 15 movie channels"????

      Sipho Mathabula - 2013-06-18 19:27

      And still nothing to watch.

  • Jacques Pienaar - 2013-06-18 16:34

If you are so very disappointed with DSTV, why don't you just stop whining and cancel your subscription? The majority of the whiners keep threatening to cancel their subscriptions but don't do it after all. Shows you they are true sheeple - just moaning along because someone else is doing the same and they can not bear to be left out of the action. People stop complaining - it is your own choice to stay with DSTV if you are not satisfied. Do not make your problem ours becuase you are spineless and unable to cancel your subscription. Also, do not phone the helpdesk, take the decoder to your nearest DSTV shop. They will sort out the problem while you wait, thus avoiding the cost of the phone call.

      Stuart Steedman - 2013-06-18 17:55

I cancelled mine. Now I download everything as soon as it is released, and it gets automatically indexed and catalogued by my Raspberry Pi Media Center, to be watched whenever I feel like it. No ads, with new shows being loaded only hours after they air in the States or UK. DSTv is a waste of time, really. I don't understand why people bother.

      Jacques Pienaar - 2013-06-18 21:41

Neither employee, nor shareholder. Just a realist. I cancelled my sub and watch everything I want on the web .... before it is even mentioned on SA tv. Just stop threatening and cancel your sub. DSTV does not care about threats. The only way to hurt them is to follow through on the threats and stop paying. With enough loss of subscribers and, in the end, income, they will have to start listening to us. But this will only work if we all stop threatening and start doing. Same thing as with the problem of the farce that we call our current government.

      Sizwe Jordan - 2013-06-21 00:49

u sir talk as if multichoice paid u, or u work for them... R625 to watch the Rugby :( everything else is a waste of time.

      Courtz Kiddo - 2013-06-19 10:07

I think all men bought DSTV for Sport! :-)

  • Ogi Jakov - 2013-06-18 16:48

Oh great another crappy channel introduced to us which means pretty soon the prices will go up again. DSTV get real with your clients and do a survey and see what we want instead of just adding and recycling channels.

  • Grant Henry - 2013-06-18 17:03

I cancelled my Dstv years ago and I am so happy. All I do is download and I watch the latest stuff when I want. Reading this artical I went on there website and this new channel fox crime and they goi g to show Magnum and Chips come on wht the F... is this how you treat your customers. Thank you load that I left tou scum bags years ago.

  • Richard - 2013-06-18 17:06

I pay it every month but yet I seem to spend my life scrolling to find anything to watch that has not been shown a hundred times. Every series repeats all the time. It is such a waste but without it and limited to SABC is so bad that I will then put my TV in the garbage. We are being ripped off because they can as they have a total monopoly.

  • Simon McCullough - 2013-06-18 17:14

Reason number 322 why I dropped DSTV like a hot potato over 2 years ago. Nothing but repeats, adverts and drivel. Now I watch what I want, when I want and without adverts or never-ending repeats.

  • The-third Wors - 2013-06-18 17:29

more crap. If it wasn't for the sport they'd be buggered and they know it.

  • Phil Venter - 2013-06-18 18:25

I have the very basic package for R29 pm. Not to watch TV (I have enough good DVD's) but for the radio stations. I retired and moved to the Free State - But I can still listen to my favorite Radio stations from Gauteng, and I found the best station for me is Cosmos from Windhoek, Namibia!

  • Freddie Jones - 2013-06-18 18:25

OK so it is SD, but what format is it? 4 x 3 or 16 x 9?

  • Joe Smith - 2013-06-18 18:33

All these HD channels, HD sport, it's great!!! R720 a month is a steal!

  • Nkosi Mzimba - 2013-06-18 18:50

lmfao it will show emotional and moving movies lol oh multichoice u guys sure can a milk a cow for all its worth. Whats next? Channel 115 Action Overload Deluxe?? Nothing but the best action from hollywood?? *smh*

  • Luanda Gqirana - 2013-06-19 00:59

You can adjust a picture size on your decoder or tv set.

  • Luanda Gqirana - 2013-06-19 01:07

Ha haaa. Theres a lot of tv content from the US, UK and Australia but dstv can only afford to buy a few hours of content per year or channels with old contents and then play long, very loud ads and a wave of repeats through the channels. I say cancel the s#*t and watch Internet tv.

  • Olivia Bell - 2013-06-19 14:54

So the UK gets it free! and here we are being ripped off arms and legs and all! In Europe cable is dirt cheap for literally 100s of channels, and here we pay a fortune for a handful of nonsense, with constant repetition...go figure!
