Everything you need to know about Empire season 2!

Cape Town – We really miss seeing the Lyon family on our TV screens and we can’t wait for them to return.

Empire season 2 will hit US screens on 23 September. The new season will be 18 episodes long.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter the creators revealed some cast and plot details.

Singers Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz have already signed on.

Comedian Chris Rock will be "someone from the past" according to co-creator Danny Strong.

Magic Mike star Adam Rodriguez will have a recurring role and rumour has it he might just be a new love interest for mama Lyon, Cookie.

And how will the rest of the Lyons fair now that Lucious (Terrence Howard) is locked up?

The battle for control of the company will continue between the two factions.

According to Jussie Smollet, Jamal will be a passionate leader who will lead with both his head and heart.

Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) will come into her own and will be more ruthless this time around. According to Taraji her character will want to accomplish as much as she can while Lucious is behind bars.

And what about the new little Lyon on the way?

Trai Byers who plays eldest brother Andre says that his character will mature and that he will "try to become something different with his spirituality and the baby on the way".

One thing is for sure when the Lyons return there will be lots of music and drama to keep us glued to the screen.
