Cape Town - Idols is back.
Auditions for the eighth season of M-Net's popular reality singing show are set to take place in four cities around the country in February.
The talent competition will once again be aired in simulcast on M-Net (DStv channel 101) and Mzansi Magic (DStv 107) to allow DStv Compact viewers to be a part of the show's television audience.
In a press statement issued on Monday, M-Net detailed requirements in order to be eligible to audition for the show.
"South African citizens between the ages of 16 and 30 (on the day of their audition) are eligible to enter Idols.
"Those younger than 18 have to be accompanied by a parent or guardian and all contestants will be asked to present their ID documents at the registration, which will take place on the day of auditioning.
"Musical instruments will again be allowed in the audition room."
Auditions will take place at the following venues:
Johannesburg: Sandton Convention Centre – Saturday, February 4
Durban: Ushaka Marine World – Saturday, February 11
Cape Town: Grandwest Entertainment World – Saturday, February 18
Kliptown, Soweto: Walter Sisulu Square – Saturday, February 25
Tips for a successful audition
Gavin Wratten, the show's executive producer, had some suggestions for a successful audition.
"Choose an upbeat song; stand out from the crowd; if you use an instrument, make sure it's tuned; let your personality shine through; and show the judges that you're an original talent, who can confidently follow in the footsteps of previous Idols," said Wratten.
Idols 7 winner Dave van Vuuren has already released his debut album through Universal Music, and the record label has also signed runner-up Mark Haze as well as Lefa Pike from season seven.
