'Jesus is a Shangaan' cartoon on DStv

Johannesburg - The work of controversial South African cartoonist Mdu Ntuli has been taken up by Comedy Central.

Ntuli confirmed on Tuesday that his Izikhokho Show will appear between shows on the channel, which is available on DStv.

One of Ntuli's strips is the subject of two complaints to the Human Rights Commission over claims that it pokes fun at Tsonga/Shangaan-speakers.

In Ntuli's Izikhokho Show, Jesus commits suicide because he discovers he is Shangaan.

The animation, called Jesus is a Shangaan, has clocked up 108 396 views on YouTube since it was posted last month.

The popular show is produced by Ntuli's Mdu Comics.

Ntuli has also produced cartoons about Zulus, Xhosas and Indians.

In December, DStv launched Comedy Central, the world's only 24-hour television channel dedicated to comedy, in South Africa.

Ntuli said Comedy Central would issue a statement with more details in due course.
