Khanyi Mbau reveals details about her R80 000 soapie salary

Cape Town - As Generations staff continue their strike action over what they term "unfair" salaries -  controversial socialite and actress Khanyi Mbau has revealed that 10 years ago she was paid a salary of R80 000 to star in the SABC soap Muvhango.

“I mean I was 17 when I got onto the show. My first pay cheque that I got from the show was R80 000. I’ve never worked in my life. Um, yes I made money from Kideo Kids but it was always my Mom’s money.

“And here I am, the first pay cheque is eighty thousand, boom, in my account. And I’d only opened the account two days before because they told me, ‘We need an account to put your money in.’ And here I am with R80 000,” Kanyi, who played the controversial character of Doobsie on the show, said during a taped interview with entertainment journalist Nicky Greenwall.

The interview was for the celebrity documentary series The Close Up.

Khanyi's full interview is expected to be aired on the 10 September at 21:35 on etv.
