Laurence Fishburne to star as Madiba

Johannesburg - From Morpheus to Madiba, Laurence Fishburne has played some epic characters. For his latest role in a BET mini-series, Laurence will play a young Nelson Mandela in the early 1960s where he deals with the political unrest in South Africa.

The six-hour mini-series simply titled Madiba is said to be released in 2016  and is based on two books written by Nelson Mandela; Conversations With Myself and Nelson Mandela By Himself.

The series’ executive producer is Kweku Mandela (Nelson Mandela’s grandson) and is directed by Prison Break’s Kevin Hooks.

Stephen Hill, President of Programming at BET Networks says, "Nelson Mandela’s journey of political activism and leadership is deeply inspirational and we are proud to have the talented and award-winning actor Laurence Fishburne join Madiba to tell this triumphant story."
