Cape Town - "Dude, this is disgusting."
That is how MasterChef SA judge Pete Goffe-Wood described Lwazi Mngoma's curry on Tuesday's episode of M-Net's reality cooking show.
The 26-year-old artist management entrepreneur from Johannesburg suffered through the all the challenges due to a bout of flu and not being able to taste properly.
"With my senses all haywire, my nose blocked and my taste buds dead, I just hope it's not overpowering," he said before serving the judges his tomato based seafood curry.
Goffe-Wood described it as "bitter" and was also shocked when he found a raw, uncleaned prawn in the dish.
Taste test
All contestants participated in a taste test where they had to taste curry specialist Vani Padiyachee's Rendang curry and then endure three rounds of tests in which they had to choose one of two ingredients - the one they thought was present in the Rendang.
Last week's team leader Samantha Nolan won the taste test and as reward, she had the opportunity to select the core ingredient for the invention test; she decided on seafood.
Bottom three
Curry specialist Deena and dessert connoisseur Thys served up the top 2 curries, leaving Sarel, Sue-Ann and a despondent Lwazi to face off in the pressure test where they had to prepare salmon three different ways.
The task was to fillet a whole salmon, poach salmon in miso-infused olive oil, prepare a salmon tartare with a poached quail egg and sear a teriyaki salmon fillet.
After a gruelling challenge, Sarel was told he was safe and Pete congratulated Lwazi and Sue-Ann on how they performed under pressure. However, it was Lwazi's last time in the MasterChef kitchen.
MasterChef SA airs on M-Net and M-Net HD on Tuesdays at 19:30.
