Cape Town - After numerous complaints from subscribers, MultiChoice is willing to return basic TV schedules to its monthly DStv magazine if enough subscribers ask for it.
In April MultiChoice removed daily TV listings from its Dish magazine sent monthly to subscribers. DStv subscribers have been very vocal about wanting to receive a printed monthly TV schedule for their TV channels from the pay TV broadcaster.
MultiChoice said the section of printed listings in the monthly magazine was dropped because the TV schedules are often old and that subscribers must use interactive and online schedules instead.
After the public outcry following the new format magazine, MultiChoice is now running a public poll to hear from all DStv subscribers whether they want the TV listings back in the magazine.
DStv subscribers were sent an SMS with options, to which they can reply, free of charge.
DStv subscribers can also indicate their preference online at www.dstv.com/dishpoll by voting for their choice. DStv subscribers have until 11 May to indicate their preference.
"MultiChoice has listened to feedback from subscribers about the new format Dish magazine," MultiChoice said in a statement.
Subscribers emotionally attached to printed schedules
"We have decided to act and are now asking all subscribers to exercise their choice about Dish magazine. We have now realised that many of our subscribers are still emotionally attached to the magazine in the old format.
"We listened to our subscribers and we've reviewed our decision. Our subscribers will now be able to make a choice," said Collins Khumalo, CEO of MultiChoice South Africa.
DStv subscribers have to vote online or send a free SMS with their smart card number to 30622 and the letter of one of the following three options:
A. I would like to receive the new lifestyle Dish magazine which does NOT have programme schedules.
B. I would prefer to receive a Dish magazine which includes the programme schedules.
C. I DO NOT want to receive a Dish magazine.
"Subscribers should bear in mind that there is a lead time of three months for printed schedules. Therefore we anticipate that the subscribers' preference will only be effective from September 2012," said MultiChoice.
