Nando's fuels SABC fire

Cape Town – "Sorry SABC. We know how much you hate fire starters." So says Nando's in the fast food chain's new poster ad after the SABC's Isidingo set burnt down in a fiery blaze which raged out of control for longer than three hours late on Wednesday.

Nando's whipped up a new poster ad in record time on Thursday.

This comes after the fire which took SABC3 off the air for a while and decimated Studio 6 at Henley Studios at the SABC destroying cables and incinerating the Isidingo set.

Two weeks ago the SABC banned the new Nando's "Diversity" anti-xenophobia TV commercial, followed by MultiChoice's DStv and e.tv.

Public interest groups and the public blasted South Africa's broadcasters for the self-censure and the banning of the ad.

"Pity you can't ban them all," Nando’s says in the newposter ad, clearly hinting at both incidents – the SABC banning Nando's and the fire which swept through the SABC and caused tens of millions of rands of damage.

"We'd like to make it clear that we had nothing to do with this. We prefer igniting public debate, not studios," says Nando's in the print ad.
