Old Spice responds to Nando's spoof ad

Cape Town - Old Spice spoofs Nando's spoof.

Recently Nando's released a television ad that spoofed the famous 'I'm on a horse' ad from Old Spice, where instead of Old Spice and diamonds the actor is holding chicken wings.

Not to be outdone, Old Spice SA decided to rise up to the challenge and released this photo on their Facebook page on Wednesday:
Old Spice spoof Nandos spoof

On Thursday morning, Old Spice SA posted another retort under the caption: "Imitation may be the sincerest form flattery... but nothing beats the Originalâ„¢" (sic).

Old Spice Nando's spoof

This is not the first time that a spoof of Nando's elicited a reply from the company that they were parodying.

Last year Nando's spoofed the Santam ad featuring Ben Kingsley and a wardrobe-changing bartender.

The finance company retaliated with a challenge that compelled Nando's to donate their food to the Johannesburg Children's Home.

Nando's not only lived up to the order, an entire day ahead of Santam's deadline, but also announced in a follow-up ad that they will delivering food to the home on the last Friday of every month for a year.

Agreed - More companies should realized that it only benefits their brand to not try and shoot down any tongue-in-cheek advertising ...

SA used to allow advertising where firms could 'chirp' or actively attack each other on their shortcomings/claims etc, but that has since been disallowed. They can still do that to some extent in USA etc.. Can be awesomely funny, but jeez imagine if DA could attack ANC in ads and vice versa? It'd just get nasty very quickly. Love this back and forth banter though!

    brilliant:)

Reminds me of the Merc Benzvs BMW Ad..... which Merc did not like at all, this type of advertising is good for all of us, we need more of it in this humourless country... congrats to Nandos and Old Spice.

I love the creativity of our South African companies. Wish our politics could learn something from the business sector.
