Pietermaritzburg - KwaZulu-Natal couple Bathabile and Dhiren Amirchand have been receiving lots of positive attention from people after their wedding was broadcast on television on Sunday, 6 September.

After their wedding was featured on Our Perfect Wedding on the DSTV channel Mzansi Magic, Bathabile said the reaction of the public had been “overwhelming”.

“We have literally had strangers walking up to us and saying congratulations. It’s crazy!”

Her husband Dhiren said he was not used to so much attention.

“On Monday we had a radio interview on Gagasi FM which was very interesting but also nerve wracking as it was a live broadcast,” said Dhiren.

The couple seem to have inspired many people, according to Bathabile.

“I have had Indian women come up to me saying I have inspired them a lot. One woman said she has been putting her boyfriend on hold for years now and after watching our wedding she is now willing to say yes and give it a go as well,” said Bathabile.

“Most people have been giving us support and positive comments. There were a few bad apples but they were mostly great comments, which shows a really positive outlook on our relationship,” said Dhiren.

“We never expected this, not in a million years. We knew that people watched the show but had no idea how diverse the audience is,” said Bathabile.

The couple also watched the show about their wedding on Sunday.

“This gave me time to really enjoy it as on our wedding day we didn’t take time to enjoy it because of all the rush and the nerves. Having my wife next to me and watching Our Perfect Wedding was something really special to me,” said Dhiren.
