Puberty steals the show at the Durban Idols auditions

2015-07-27 10:21

Durban – Last year’s Idols winner, Vincent Bones, hailed from Durbs. In fact the city is the home to three other Idols winners too. Expectations always run high for the coastal city.

If you don’t remember last year, Durban had some of the worst auditions ever. Remember braaiman?

This time around 16 golden tickets were awarded.

Here’s what went down last night:

Things started off well when the first contestant Amanda Antony, from PE, wowed the judges.

And then things got a bit awkward when Gareth told a contestant to get on his knees and apologise for his rant after he did not make it at Theatre Week. Winston did get a golden ticket after all.

Sam Smith was a go to for many auditioners, but this one contestant got swept up in the emotion of the song. #catchingfeelings

And then there was this...

Things started looking up when young songwriter Bridgitt Leahy saved us all from the golden ticket drought.

Hayden totally surprised us and the judges!

A familiar face, Doctor Lihle Buthelezi, made her way back for a second chance.

But Durban saved the best for last with Sizwe Mthalane.

The highlight of the evening was Mzilikazi Mabaso with his original composition, Puberty. #thestruggleisreal
