SA-born singer booted off X Factor

Los Angeles – South African-born Dani Knights' girl group Lakoda Rayne was booted off the US version of reality TV singing competition The X Factor on Sunday.

The group consisted of four girls, namely Dani Knights, Cari Fletcher, Paige Elizabeth and Hayley Orrantia and was formed after the girls survived the bootcamp portion of the show. They where then mentored by Paula Abdul, who is also a judge on the show.

They received the lowest number of votes for their performance of Taylor Swift's You Belong with Me.

'Too pretty'

X Factor judge Simon Cowell is convinced that Lakoda Rayne were voted off because the girls were "too pretty".

"It's a problem I've had all my life," he joked during the live show in the US on Wednesday.

"Girls didn't like them," Cowell said. He then proceeded to compare the girl group to fellow X Factor finalist, teen singer Drew Ryniewicz.

"Groups are always difficult but I think someone like Drew is very good in that she speaks to teenagers like a teenager - that's part of her appeal. They're a bit older, but it's the same principle."

Capetonian Dani Knights, or Danielle van Zyl, 22, is originally from Durbanville but has lived in the US for 13 years.
