SABC3 reveals A-list cast of new drama

Cape Town - SABC3 has finally revealed the cast of their new, locally produced drama series, High Rollers.

After previously teasing that "several A-listers of SA's stage and screen" will be seen on the show, SABC3 has now pierced the veil of secrecy, weeks before the show is set to air.

The series is set against the backdrop of the high stakes world of gambling and is said to give viewers a glimpse into the dark world of gambling, family drama and moral questions.

A family with scandals

Egoli star Brumilda van Rensburg will star as the King family matriarch, Helena King, who is said to manipulate her two sons who own Kings Casino in an upmarket neighbourhood of Johannesburg. Using them to her disposal, Helena will do anything to keep her power over them in tact.

David and Paul King, played by Anthony Coleman and Justin Strydom, are Helena's two sons. Though the casino was built by the youngest brother David, older brother Paul is picking up his life after being released on probation from prison.

Paul's release is said to bring up old questions about the night their father, Charles King, was murdered under suspicious and mysterious circumstances.

Adding to the mix of family drama, Binnelanders star Rolanda Marais steps in as David's estranged wife Analine. Though she was once a great love of Paul, Analine set out to marry David in a haste after Paul was imprisoned. And when the two meet up again after his release from prison, sparks will fly.

Bearing secrets

Analine and David's three teenagers, Ben (Vilje Maritz), Linkie (Danielle Retief) and Marcus (Kieran Prigge) also head up many problems within the family.

But, what would a drama serious be without the key character which holds everything together and bears a few secrets of his own?

Fezile Mpela stars as TT, the public face of King's Casino, who endeavours to hold the family together that raised him as one of their own while trying to hold onto his own marriage at the same time.

According to a statement released by SABC3, High Rollers will be will be the first drama series that the channel has created in a long while, following other successful shows such as Jozi H which was quite popular on local screens a few years ago.

The series is set to air on Tuesdays on SABC3 from 2 April at 20:30.
