Samuel L Jackson makes Saftas appearance

Johannesburg - Film royalty Samuel L Jackson sprang a surprise on revellers at the two-day South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas) on Saturday.

Jackson presented the Best Actress in a Feature Film award to Lindiwe Ndlovu for her role in Little One.

Big winners of the night included e.tv's 4Play: Sex Tips for Girls, taking home a staggering seven awards. The SABC2 soapie 7de Laan was declared the nation's favourite soapie and Material the best movie.

Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand was the venue of choice as film and television industry figures graced the event that honours the best in TV and film.

There was full-on glamour and pageantry on the red carpet as actors, directors and film makers put their best pouts forward.

e.tv cleaned up

Standouts included Lerato Kganyago in a metallic mermaid dress from Pallu, Minnie Dlamini looked like a goddess in an off-white dress peppered with beads and diamantes, while starlet Pearl Modiadie had on a dress that revealed too much.

Inside the cavernous venue entertainment industry figures watched to see who would go home clutching a Golden Horn, as the award is called.

And e.tv certainly cleaned up after boycotting the event last year just three days before showtime.

Their soapie Rhythm City picked up the Best Ensemble award while Scandal! won the Best Writing Team award.
