Los Angeles - One of the US soldiers who tackled a gun-wielding man on board a high-speed train in France last month will be put to another test of grace and agility on the US television programme Dancing With the Stars.

Alek Skarlatos, 22, was named on Wednesday as one of 13 people selected to be in the cast, the show said in a news release. The show will begin its 21st season on September 14.

Skarlatos and his friends Spencer Stone and Anthony Sadler, along with Briton Chris Norman, were feted as heroes after they thwarted a potential attack on the train en route from Amsterdam to Paris on August 21.

The four men received the Legion of Honour in a ceremony last week at the Elysee Palace in Paris.

Skarlatos, a member of the Army National Guard, will join a number of celebrities featured on the show. Each will be paired with a professional dancer and their performances will be evaluated by a group of judges in a competition that runs throughout the season.

Skarlatos is an avid painter and military history buff, according to the news release. Between National Guard deployments, he studies at a local community college. His goal is to become a police officer.
