Cape Town – M-Net confirmed on Thursday that a third season of its reality cooking competition show MasterChef SA has been given the green light.
The second expanded season in 2013 was liked by critics and garnered strong viewership figures for the South African pay-TV broadcaster which all but ensured a third season.
MasterChef SA's third season will run as the South African pay-TV broadcaster is doing another season of Idols and revived Big Brother for another South African season, just after it also decided to bring back Survivor South Africa, the 5th season entitled Survivor South Africa: Champions filmed on an island in the South China Sea which is starting this Sunday.
"Having three local versions of the biggest reality shows on one channel is quite a feat - and yet another first for M-Net," says Lani Lombard, M-Net's head of publicity. "It's a potent combination that will lead to many hours of television magic."
Nationwide auditions for the third season of MasterChef SA will take place in major cities in February and March – the same months during which the Idols judges will be doing that show's auditions.
"We encourage anyone who has always wanted to be part of these shows to try their luck - but pay special attention to the audition requirements, dates and venues," says Lombard.
The MasterChef SA season three nationwide audition details are as follows:
- 15 Feb: Suncoast Casino, Durban
- 22 Feb: Southern Sun The Cullinan, Cape Town
- 1 March: The Pivot Conference Centre at Southern Sun Montecasino, Johannesburg
People who audition have to once again pre-prepare a cold dish. The process for subsequent audition rounds has been tweaked slightly however. Anyone older than 18 can enter and who has not cooked professionally before.
The Idols nationwide audition details are as follows:
- 15 Feb: Carnival City, Johannesburg
- 22 Feb: Playhouse Theatre, Durban
- 9 March: GrandWest Casino, Cape Town
- 22 March: State Theatre, Pretoria
