Two-part Lance interview to air in SA

Cape Town - Discovery Networks International has confirmed that Oprah Winfrey's no-holds-barred interview with Lance Armstrong will be aired in two parts broadcast over two nights in South Africa.

Following the announcement from Winfrey that the interview special Oprah and Lance Armstrong: The Worldwide Exclusive will be split into two parts in the US, Discovery Networks International have now followed suit and will air the second part of the interview on Saturday evening at 19:30 on TLC (DStv channel 172/TopTV channel 453).

The first part of the interview will be aired on Friday evening at 19:30.

Sources have revealed that during the interview, Armstrong came clean to Winfrey about his use of performance-enhancing drugs during his once-illustrious cycling career.

Watch it live

The Armstrong interview, as part of Winfrey's highly-rated new weekly talk show, Oprah's Next Chapter, will also be streamed online at oprah.com worldwide at the same time on 17 January when the episode is shown in America.

South African viewers who want to watch it online will be able to log on at 04:00 on the morning of 18 January, South African time, to watch it.

Part two will be streamed 24 hours later on Saturday 19 January at 04:00 (SA time).

Winfrey decided on Tuesday to expand her interview with Armstrong to two episodes following a marathon 2.5 hour interview recording session on Monday at Armstrong's home in Austin, Texas, as paparrazzi swarmed outside.

'Biggest interview I've ever done'

"I'm not going to cut down the two and a half hours," said Winfrey when she spoke with CBS' This Morning on Tuesday to preview the interview. "As a matter of fact we have decided, literally on the plane last night on the way back, that we are actually going to go for two nights because it is impossible to cut 80 minutes out.

"As you all know, a 90-minute interview on television is really only 65 minutes. So we felt that to leave over half of this on the cutting room floor after millions of people have been waiting for years for many of these answers, would not be the right thing to do."

Winfrey calls it "the biggest interview I've ever done" and revealed that she snagged the Armstrong interview in December while she was vacationing at her home in Hawaii where some of the girls from her Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa were staying with her.
