Everyone has been talking about the new Netflix docu-series Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness.

In case you haven't watched it yet, it centres on the life of eccentric roadside zoo owner Joe Shreibvogel, known as "Joe Exotic", and the events that would eventually lead to him hiring a hitman to take out his rival, animal rights activist, Carole Baskin.

Since the show has aired there have been talks of a second season, Carole Baskin gave her side of the story, and the police have asked for leads on the disappearance of her husband, Don Howard.

With the story being a hot commodity, Hollywood is getting in on it too.

A limited series is in the works and will star comedian Kate McKinnon who is also the executive producer.

According to Deadline, UCP - the studio behind the TV series adaption of hit podcasts like Dirty John - announced the series Joe Exotic in November last year.

The series will focus on the ongoing rivalry between Joe, Carole and other players in the big cat community.

The only actor and role confirmed is Kate, who will play Carole.

In a statement the animal rights activist and owner of Big Cat Rescue asked the production to use CGI big cats, reports ET Online.

"We hope McKinnon has a passion for animals and that her series will focus on the horrible lives captive big cats lead when exploited by breeders like Joe Exotic. We further hope she urges the public to support the Big Cat Public Safety Act that would end the cub petting abuse in America," read the statement.

Journalist and author Robert Moor spent four years covering Joe and Carole for the podcast Joe Exotic: Tiger King.

In an interview with Andy Cohen on Radio Andy, he revealed that he is involved in the casting for the miniseries, reports Entertainment Weekly.

On who should play Joe, Robert gave a surprising candidate.

"I think Margot Robbie should play Joe in like a gender switch. Look at her eyes; she has eyes that look just like Joe's."

Other A-lister names thrown into the ring are Sam Rockwell as Joe and John C. Reilly as Doc Antle.

Actor Dax Shephard has also put himself up to play the role of Joe. He tweeted: "If I don't get cast as Joe Exotic in the eventual biopic, Hollywood is broken."
