The series followed Veronica, a student who progresses from high school to college while moonlighting as a private investigator under the tutelage of her detective father (Enrico Colantoni).

The show premiered in 2004 on the UPN network where it ran for two seasons. It ran for a third season on the CW and was cancelled in 2007.

In 2013 Bell and Thomas started a crowd-sourcing campaign to raise funds for a big screen version of the series and raised over $5m from fans. It broke the record for the fastest project to reach $1m on Kickstarter hitting the mark in 4 hours, 24 minutes.

The film was released in 2014 and picks up several years after the TV series ended and sees private investigator Veronica return to her hometown of Neptune, California, to solve one last crime when her former high school flame Logan Echolls (Jason Dohring) is charged with murdering his girlfriend.
