WATCH: Bonnie Mbuli in new BBC series 'Noughts and Crosses'

Actress and presenter Bonnie Mbuli is set make her return to the small-screen with an international role.

The former Afternoon Express presenter announced her role in new BBC One series, Naughts And Crosses, which is slated to premier on the, 5 March.

On Monday afternoon, she took to her social media and shared a video which showcased the actors and actresses who star in the series and captioned the post, "Love is never black and white. Noughts And Crosses. Coming to BBC One… with all episodes available for streaming on BBC iPlayer immediately afterwards."

The 40-year-old star initially shared the news on her social media in 2018, with filming set to begin in the following year.

In an exclusive published last in April this past year the Sunday Independent further reported that Bonnie would portray the character of Jasmine Hadley. Adding that the series is an adaptation of the first book in the novel series of the same title authored by Malorie Blackman.

The series follows two young people Sephy and Callum, who are divided by their colour but united by love. Sephy is a 'Cross', a member of the black ruling class and daughter of a prominent politician. Callum is a 'Nought', a white member of the underclass. The two have been friends since early childhood but their relationship grows ever more complicated as they come of age. It's the story of two families separated by power and prejudice but forever entwined by fate.

On Friday BBC released the first trailer for the season with with the tagline: 'First love in a dangerous alternate world.'

Bonnie’s acting career boasts an impressive track record, with the star having appeared in shows popular such as, Soul City, Gaz’lam, Zero Tolerance, Backstage, Rhythm City and Rockville. She has also starred as singer Dolly Radebe in the film Drum.
