Arrow to end after season 8

Cape Town – The CW announced on Wednesday that Arrow will end after a shortened season 8. 

The superhero series was the first DC Comics drama on the network. 

The final season which will air between 2019 and 2020 will have a shortened run of 10 episodes. 

The series follows billionaire playboy Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), who, five years after being stranded on a hostile island, returns home to fight crime and corruption as a secret vigilante whose weapon of choice is a bow and arrow.

Amell who shared the news on Twitter said playing Oliver Queen has been the greatest professional experience of his life.

Executive producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Beth Schwartz said in a statement that is was a difficult decision to come to but that it was with the best interest of Arrow in mind. 

"We’re heartened by the fact that Arrow has birthed an entire universe of shows that will continue on for many years to come. We’re excited about crafting a conclusion that honours the show, its characters and its legacy and are grateful to all the writers, producers, actors, and — more importantly — the incredible crew that has sustained us and the show for over seven years," read the statement.

Other cast members also reacted to the news on Twitter and thanked fans of the show. 


Arrow season 6 airs Tuesdays at 20:00 on M-Net City (DStv 115).
