The cast of Big Brother Germany don't know about the coronavirus pandemic yet.
According to The Guardian, the 14 contestants are competing in the 13th season of the reality show in the country and have been in isolation since 6 February, when news of Covid-19 was first reported from Wuhan.
As per the rules of the show, the contestants have no contact with the outside world and cannot get updates about what's happening.
Four new housemates entered the house on 6 March, three days before Germany reported its first death due to the virus, reports the newspaper.
The producers of the show told German newspaper, Süddeutsche Zeitung that the contestants will be informed if there is reason to do so.
"Which information is given to the residents from outside is also decided in exchange with the relatives."
They also added that "special hygiene measures" were taken to protect those in the house.
After a social media uproar producers have now decided to tell the contestants about the pandemic in a live episode set to air on Tuesday night, reports Entertainment Weekly.
They will be able to ask questions and receive messages from their families.
There are also versions of the show on air in Canada and Brazil – housemates took up residence in March and January respectively. They haven't been informed of the pandemic either.
A clip shared on Twitter showed contestants of Big Brother Canada discussing the absence of a studio audience during the live eviction.

In 2008 Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker's show Dead Set, had this exact premise. The series follows a group of Big Brother UK housemates stranded in the house during a zombie apocalypse.
