Brooklyn Nine-Nine cancelled after fifth season

Cape Town – Sad news for the Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans. 

Fox announced on Thursday that the popular comedy has been cancelled after five seasons. 

The police sitcom set in a fictional New York City Police Department  follows a team of detectives and features an ensemble cast: Andy Samberg, Terry Crews, Andre Braugher, Melissa Fumero, Chelsea Peretti, Joe Lo Truglio, Stephanie Beatriz and Joel McKinnon Miller. 

According to TVLine the finale is set to air on Sunday 20 May in the US. 

Fans and celebrities took to social media to react to the news.

But there might be some light at the end of the tunnel. 

According to The Hollywood Reporter other networks have reportedly called the producers from Universal Television.

The publication reports that Hulu, Netflix, TBS and NBC have all thrown their hats in the ring.

Sources told the publication that the studio plans to revive the series at another outlet following the outpouring of support from both critics and stars. 

Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 5 is scheduled to air on 1Magic (Dstv 103) from Thursday, 31 May at 19:00.
