Dwayne Johnson says his 'heart is full of gratitude' as he announces the end of 'Ballers'

Cape Town – Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has confirmed that the upcoming fifth season of Ballers will be its last.

In the HBO comedy which centres on professional football, Dwayne plays Spencer Strasmore, a former football player who becomes a financial manager for current football players.

Other cast members include John David Washington, Rob Corddry, Omar Benson Miller, Donovan Carter, Troy Garity, London Brown and Brittany S. Hall. Levinson.

Ahead of the premiere of the fifth season on Sunday Dwayne posted an emotional message on Instagram.

Alongside a video, he wrote: "Cheers to our final season of HBO's Ballers. My heart is full of gratitude to all of you for rockin' with us every season. You made us HBO's highest-rated comedy for years, and most importantly, you helped create and sustain a platform for other actors to have the opportunity to work hard, grow and become household names. To me, the opportunity Ballers created for so many others is the real gold of our show. "
