Cape Town - Night TV is just the perfect way to get you to relax and forget the day in the comfort of your own home.

Proudly South African stories, be it drama series or soapies, easily make it on the trend list on social media. Here are four characters who currently have people talking.

1. Boniswa in e.tv’s Scandal! (played by Lusanda Mbane)

When viewers were first introduced to the character, it seemed she was a good wife and mother. But now Boniswa’s dark side has gone full circle and  her skeletons have come back to life. In an interview with Move!, Lusanda says Boniswa needs to tell the truth and forgive herself for things that have happened in the past because as it stands, she is digging herself into a deeper grave.

2. Phumelele in Isibaya (played by Ayanda Borotho)

She is the second wife of Mpiyakhe Zungu. When an old flame comes back into her life, she finds herself conflicted and torn. Looking at life as a married woman, Phumelele tries to suppress her feelings for her ex-bae and wants to make her marriage work. A whole conversation about loyalty and the patriarchal society has been sparked by the storyline.

This character...Phumelele MaDlamani taught me so much in the 7 years of portraying her. None of us are immune to systematic patriarchy in our society. I drew many parallels from her and my own life when I wrote about the stage in every womans life before marriage and when we are in marriage. What I know for sure is that marriage should not be bondage. Marriage should be a safe and liberating space where people grow to be their best version and to do it honouring each other. One of the things I point out in my book is that ...when it's not working divorce is not always the best default unless you are physically, emotionally and mentally harmed. "We are not trees. We can move". People evolve. Relationships evolve. Marriage evolves. You can always find a new normal... if it's worth it. My advice is GET THE BOOK!!!! #UnbecomingToBecome #BecomingMe #MyJourneyBackToSelf

3. Fihliwe in Uzalo (played by Phumzile Mlangeni)

Out for revenge she’s plotting to kill Nkunzi’s family because he killed her brother and mother. She initiated a plan to throw an engagement party for herself at her brother Khathaza’s house. She cooked a meal and spiced it up with some poison. After a prayer for the "Last Supper", she started waving a gun in the air and told her guests what her intentions are. One person died, who is next?

4. Goodness Mabuza in The Queen (played by Zenande Mfenyana)

She wants to adopt a child but her family is against it. She doens’t have kids so her family would rather have her giving birth to her own. Viewers are wondering if she is doing it out of guilt since the child’s mother was killed in a car crash and Goodness was driving. Others admire her for her compassion and love for this child. We wait to see what her decision is.
