Johannesburg -  Lebogang Mpuang is the latest contestant to leave the kitchen on Top Chef SA. The Gauteng-based trained chef and food consultant's sweet and savoury high tea dishes failed to impress the judges.

The challenges

For the Quickfire Challenge the cheftestants had to cook a dish using just one pot, they could rewash their pot but did not get to choose their own pot, this was determined by a knife pull.

Phillip Nel, who is Chef de Partie at Rust en Vrede wine estate, won the challenge and bagged immunity for the Elimination Challenge with his gourmet steak sandwich.

The Elimination Challenge tested pastry skills and finesse. The contestants were split into two teams and had to create a high tea menus with six sweet and six savoury items.

The challenge was intense from one contestant forgetting to add baking powder to her scones to another one having words with a judge.

The elimination

Things went downhill for Lebo when she ran out of time while making a milk tart mousse and a choux pastry with two other savoury mousses.

This week’s Top Chef SA guest judge; comedian Trevor Gumbi pulled no punches with his criticism for the dishes he didn’t enjoy at the Judges’ Table.
