Cape Town – HBO is the latest network to be hit by a cyber-attack.
Entertainment Weekly reports hackers claimed to obtain 1.5 terabytes of data.
Upcoming episodes of Ballers and Room 401 have allegedly been put online. There is reportedly also a script of the upcoming episode four of Game of Thrones.
The network confirmed the security breach via a statement.
"HBO recently experienced a cyber incident, which resulted in the compromise of proprietary information," read the statement.
"We immediately began investigating the incident and are working with law enforcement and outside cybersecurity firms. Data protection is a top priority at HBO, and we take seriously our responsibility to protect the data we hold."
On Sunday evening US media houses received an anonymous email announcing the hack: "Hi to all mankind. The greatest leak of cyber space era is happening. What’s its name? Oh I forget to tell. Its HBO and Game of Thrones……!!!!!! You are lucky to be the first pioneers to witness and download the leak. Enjoy it & spread the words. Whoever spreads well, we will have an interview with him. . . According to Vanity Fair the email also contained the telephone number of HBO Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications Jeff Cusson. His name was used on a Twitter account that has since been suspended which was used to spread the information.
