Hilary Duff writes open letter to Disney after they stop filming on 'Lizzie McGuire'

Hilary Duff has appealed to Disney to find the Lizzie McGuire revival a new home.

At the launch of Disney+ last year, the company revealed a reboot of the popular comedy starring Hilary which would centre on the character in her 30s.

Filming of the show began in November 2019 but came to an abrupt halt in January 2020 when the showrunner Terri Minsky quit, reports Variety.

A Disney spokesperson said in a statement: "After filming two episodes, we concluded that we need to move in a different creative direction and are putting a new lens on the show."

On Saturday Hilary took to Instagram to appeal to Disney executives to move the show to sister streaming service Hulu.

She wrote: "[I] was incredibly excited to launch 'Lizzie' on D+ and my passion remains. However, I feel a huge responsibility to honour the fans' relationship with Lizzie who, like me, grew up seeing themselves in her.

"I'd be doing a disservice to everyone by limiting the realities of a 30 year old's journey to live under the ceiling of a PG rating."

The 32-year-old went on to say that it would be a dream if Disney let them move the show to Hulu if they were interested.

"And I could bring this beloved character to life again."
