Awesome moment as 7de Laan airs first gay kiss

Cape Town – It was an historic moment for 7de Laan on Thursday night when the local soapie had two male characters sharing a kiss.

After 17 years on air the local soap finally showed a same-sex kiss, albeit part of a sub-plot and not one of the lead characters. Only a few local soapies have aired same-sex kisses. Isidingo had a gay wedding and kiss in 2006 while Generations aired a gay kiss in 2009 already, when Senzo locked lips with Jason. 

In the episode Oppiekoffie waitresses Amorey (Kristen Raath) and Petro (Carla van der Merwe), who've both had a crush on handsome Logan (Simon Tuit), find out that he's actually gay when he kisses his husband, Divan (Arnu de Villiers), in front of them.

And 7de Laan fans rejoiced.

“Yay for 7deLaan for breaking boundaries! It’s high time you needed a gay couple. They're such an oulike couple too. To the homophobes: Welcome to the real world,” Shaakira Stemmet wrote on 7de Laan’s Facebook page.

Johan Wait wrote: “Congratulations 7de Laan for the reality scene. It's about time...”

Sadly there were also some homophobic comments on the show’s Facebook page, but Channel24 won’t be sharing them here.
